Michael & Ian

Michael Copley – biography

As a founder member of the Cambridge Buskers, Michael has toured the world, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, plus tours of Japan, Australia, Canada and even Syria. Michael’s serious side, as a recorder player, has led him to concerto performances with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony and the Academy of Ancient Music. Michael’s latest group is Sambuca, in which he is partnered by Peter Martin on lute, theorbo and guitar.

Aside from his musical talent, Michael is also an impressive linguist, counting Japanese, French, German, Polish and Croatian amongst his foreign languages. His interest in all things East European takes him regularly to Bosnia, where he works with both disabled children and an adult orchestra. Thanks to many trips to Poland, he can confidently state that he can almost pronounce "W Szczebrzeszynie chrzaszcz brzmi w trzcinie", a favourite Polish tongue twister.

Ian Moore – biography

Ian Moore is a highly talented individual. In addition to his pivotal role in The Classic Buskers, he is an organist, musical-arranger, conductor and composer, under the name of Ian de Massini, and has established the highly acclaimed Cambridge Voices, having himself been a choral scholar in the famous choir of King's College Chapel, Cambridge, before becoming organist of Ely Cathedral. His choir Cambridge Voices have appeared on BBC radio, Austria's ORF and CBS Television in North America as part of their regular annual tours of Austria, Switzerland, Britain and France. They have amassed thirteen premier CD recordings to date, five of which feature Ian’s own compositions.

In his spare time, Ian performs the complete solo keyboard works of Bach from memory (nobody knows why, he just does) besides works of Shostakovich and Messiaen, and has recently completed Bach's Art of Fugue, leading to his appointment as Senior Member of Hughes Hall, Cambridge University.
